Lake Orellana is one of Spain’s and Europe’s premier specimen carp-fishing venues. Located in the Extremadura region of western Spain, the reservoir was created by damming the River Guadiana as part of the huge water-management projects carried out in the region during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Today, Orellana covers more than 5,000 hectares, making it one of Spain’s largest and most famous reservoirs.

The carp of Orellana are particularly special. Carp were introduced into the reservoir during the 1960s and have subsequently developed largely without further stocking. The result is a population of powerful, naturally growing carp that have adapted to the lake’s abundant natural food sources, such as crayfish.

These fish are renowned for their incredible power and fighting ability. Catch Carp Spain clients regularly catch carp over 40 lb, while in recent years, an increasing number of fish weighing 60 and 70 lb or more have been caught.
