I am currently leading a theatre project called\u00a0Performing Resistance: the role of theatre and performance in 21st\u00a0century workers\u2019 movements<\/a><\/em>. The aim is to create\u00a0new links between artists and workers’ movements in Brazil, India, North America, and the UK.\u00a0Project workshops, and a\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0and archive (under construction)\u00a0will deepen understanding of working-class culture and the role of performance in workers’ movements today.<\/p>\n The next workshop in the Performing Resistance series\u00a0is probably the most exciting, given the longstanding importance in the international labour movement of the\u00a0Landless Workers\u2019 Movement (MST<\/a>), and their inspirational approach to political organising and cultural work, which has supported land occupations\u00a0in Brazil\u00a0since 1984.<\/p>\n On\u00a012th<\/sup>\u00a0December 6-8 pm\u00a0<\/strong>Alan Leite,\u00a0State Secretary of the MST in Marab\u00e1\/Par\u00e1 and Coordinator of Theatre Brigade –\u00a0Patativa do Assa<\/em>r\u00e9,\u00a0<\/em>and Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner Helen Sarapeck, will deliver a workshop called:\u00a0Theatre of the Oppressed and the Landless Workers\u2019 Movement: Together for a better world!<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n I\u2019m hoping trade union activists across the UK will be keen to attend, so please do share far and wide in your networks. The event is likely to be delivered in Portuguese, but English translation will be given.
