\/>alchemy. have worn our aura of knives. have<br \/>rocked these cumbersome puppets: sons, <br \/>brothers, fathers, all our lovely wayward<br \/>vanguard. a ventriloquist\u2019s doll, death made<br \/>of him. we have covered our hair. we have <br \/>entered the green glass eye of the marble. <br \/>our hands have been shuttles in the lean <br \/>machinery of grief. we have knelt, we have<br \/>stooped, voyant with insomnia. we have<br \/>addressed our contortions to the aertex <br \/>ceiling. we have been pulled about by our<br \/>sleeves, by the hoods of our winter coats.<br \/>we have been spat on by midget policemen.<br \/>we have held him too, a thousand times, our<br \/>boys: separable and trembling, inscribed <br \/>against the edges of a prison cell, a junkie<br \/>squat, this street, this bed, and the pillow <br \/>is thin, is famine\u2019s very ration book. we have <br \/>prayed. and praying, we have spiked our<br \/>prayers: antimony and vinegar. forgive us.<br \/>those nights we\u2019d take a razor to the law,<br \/>to the sky, to anyone who\u2019d rinse his <br \/>strutting warren blood to milk, who\u2019d<br \/>make him theirs, who\u2019d rid him of his<br \/>wounds. his wounds are real, and also<br \/>ours. boys, with their incendiary ventures.<br \/>boys, with their nocturnal confrontations <br \/>in the no-place common to capital. we have<br \/>held \/><\/p>\n<p>awfulness in its finite aspect. and we <br \/>became feral with reproach. and we <br \/>have screamed away their platinum<br \/>lacquer. he is not a gilded bowl, his<br \/>asymmetric fractures fixed with gold.<br \/>preserve the dull earth fact of him. no<br \/>nectar, splendours, no luminous lullaby\u2019s<br \/>sugared tyranny. before he can rise he has <br \/>to die. he died. her boy, our boys. by <br \/>the structures of sin, the abattoir <br \/>vocabulary of capital, which grinds all<br \/>names to mob. how many boys, partial<br \/>and abolished, sewn inside futile<br \/>routines of punishment and riot? we have<br \/>held him too, and so we know: after <br \/>grief is the glowing time. is the goblet<br \/>of fire and the tongue of fire and molten<br \/>soul made ball. he will come again,<br \/>amplified in acid flashback clarity<br \/>of blue-black emerald frenzied red.<br \/>he\u2019ll wear his love like an ideal sun,<br \/>clarion against their tedious throats where<br \/>they sit, reciting their vampire creed<br \/>into screens. he will rise in their world<br \/>of gentrifiers, pesticides, of every <br \/>crowd made ghost, their bland disparity.<br \/>she will let him stand, sharpened by<br \/>sunlight, fabulating crisis into miracle.<br \/>but first she is, we are, empress<br \/>of humiliations. holding her son <br \/>like a sallow candle.
