\/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Liverpool,<br \/>the happenings have all happened;<br \/>while we were waiting, agitating,<br of hate litter Dover beach<br \/>where England and the horizons meet.<\/p>\n<p>He knelt, exhausted <br \/>on the shingle, <br \/>a single male,<br \/>on international terrorism lists<br \/>for attacks on a temple <br \/>his Home office label<br \/>\u2018a dangerous anti-capitalist\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cCall me Jesus, of brown-skinned descent,<\/em><br \/><em>I confess, I am an illegal immigrant<\/em><br \/><em>I teach truths without borders.<\/em><br \/><em>Illegal, to be born without a father,<\/em><br \/><em>illegal, my migrant desperate flight<\/em><br \/><em>to Egypt\u2019s sheltering sanctuary<\/em><br \/><em>away from Herod\u2019s genocide, his cruelty;<\/em><br \/><em>illegal my years of wandering<\/em><br \/><em>a healer without licence or authority;<\/em><br \/><em>my words, thorns in the sides<\/em><br \/><em>of Romans, Sanhedrin\u2019s, Pharisees;<\/em><br \/><em>illegal my cleansing of the temple<\/em><br \/><em>my deeds of holy redeeming disgust<\/em><br \/><em>that put me on their terrorism list;<\/em><br \/><em>illegal my entry to Jerusalem on a donkey<\/em><br \/><em>accused of Revolution and anarchy<\/em><br \/><em>for sowing the seeds of unruly love;<\/em><br \/><em>illegally hanging on a rough cross<\/em><br \/><em>abandoned and beyond all loss<\/em><br \/><em>till I denied death by resurrection:<\/em><br \/><em>illegally washed on Dover\u2019s stony shore<\/em><br \/><em>I ask refugee status, no less, no more,<\/em><br \/><em>my cheek turned for an official\u2019s kiss,<\/em><br \/><em>arms outstretched for England\u2019s justice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>bare head bowed, he stands on the shore,<br \/>haloed by security cameras and UK law<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhile we retro-danced the day away<\/em><br \/><em>at a union flag, nostalgia festooned<\/em><br \/><em>Brexit festival of Britain on the beach:<\/em><br \/><em>We loved Love Me Do to the sixties;<\/em><br \/><em>We Dancing Queened the seventies;<\/em><br \/><em>We Madonnaed the eighties away;<\/em><br \/><em>We Elton Johned the naughty nineties;<\/em><br \/><em>We Britneyed to new millennium dreams;<\/em><br \/><em>We Biebered through the 20teens:<\/em><br \/><em>Clinging to innocence, we were groomed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The unfamiliar rhythms of other shores<br \/>were not unheard, but too easily ignored, <br \/>memories dissolving with sugar spoons,<br \/>in warm, shallow waves of radio tunes.<\/p>\n<p>On his shoulders they put a blanket,<br \/>on his healing hands, handcuff bracelets.<br \/>He babbled on, advised to remain silent<br \/>a crowd stared, unsure what he meant,<br \/>by the thorns of love\u2019s trials and torment.<br \/>In a stir of Jamaican coffee on the esplanade,<br \/>can you hear the ringing feet of a child runaway.<\/p>\n<p>The depths of history will not be still<br \/>along Dover beach, broken hands<br \/>are washing up among the wet sands<br \/>where Nzinga\u2019s daughters once sang;<br \/>Broken hands bound in manacle rings<br \/>discarded bodies of slave ship Zong.<\/p>\n<p>Churchmen who intone so fervently <br \/>the duty of compassionate slavery;<br \/>Gangs whose profits thrive on human trade<br \/>first licensed for slavery\u2019s runaways,<br \/>slaves, labourers, the equally illegal<br \/>entered in their register of \u2018disposables\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>And as we drove home, mile after mile<br \/>in the gathering dark of an inner exile,<br \/>adrift on a twig of raft, so far out to sea<br \/>a mother, a child, hands joined in frailty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Queen Nzinga (Nzinga Mbande), 1583\u2014 1663, was the monarch of the Mbundu people, was a resilient leader who fought against the Portuguese and
