A Protest March<\/strong><\/p>\n

after the painting by L. S. Lowry, 1959<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Get out of the road, dogs!<\/p>\n

They’re coming, marching<\/p>\n

but this lot aren’t from<\/p>\n

the factories, they’re too<\/p>\n

well dressed, too high<\/p>\n

and mighty to carry banners.<\/p>\n

They’re obviously in ranks,<\/p>\n

big knobs first. One or two<\/p>\n

women add a token red<\/p>\n

to the black and grey prism.<\/p>\n

But why my street? Why<\/p>\n

not take the scenic route<\/p>\n

instead? Scenic my arse.<\/p>\n

They just want us to see<\/p>\n

power on the move. This<\/p>\n

is no protest, more a march.<\/p>\n

Not a sound from neighbours<\/p>\n

as they stand still and watch.<\/p>\n

The men bow their heads,<\/p>\n

one man stands erect!<\/p>\n

Silly buggers, it’s politics<\/p>\n

not a bloody funeral march.<\/p>\n
